Prescription Drug Abuse – A MAJOR PROBLEM

According to the 2006 annual report of the International Narcotics Control Board, (as well as recent SAMHSA survey results) the domestic and worldwide abuse of licit drugswill surpass that of illicit drug abuse (potentially excluding cannabis) in upcoming years.  In fact, in middle schools and high schools the first drug a child abuses these days is likely a prescription drug such as a pain reliever such as OXYCONTIN or VICODIN (52%) vs. marijuana (48%) (SAMHSA Report).   Worst yet …. is that the United States leads the way in its contribution to this international problem!
